Bondi Icebergs Is About To Turn Into An Ice Bath

Bondi Icebergs is about to turn into one giant ice bath

Thanks to a crafty activation from Uber One, Bondi Icebergs is going to finally live up to its name this weekend

PICTURE IT: it’s Sunday morning, and while we’re edging towards the end of winter, the hours immediately following sunrise remain frosty and unwelcoming. You’re a creature of habit and like to start your day on the right track with a workout – a classic Sunday morning hit-out. But once you’ve beaten the chill by heating up, you’ll need to cool down again and start the recovery process. What do you do? If you answered ‘do a cold plunge’, you’re in luck.

Cold water-based recovery is about to receive a major rebrand this Sunday, with a transformation of the iconic Bondi Icebergs swimming pool – otherwise known as the world’s most famous ocean pool, the best spot to take a photo in Sydney, or by its various other superlative titles.

The world-renowned pool, famous for its choice placement on the Southern end of Australia’s most visited beach, boasts stellar views, crystal-clear waters and will soon be turned into a massive ice bath, available exclusively for Uber One members keen on taking the plunge.

Bondi Icebergs

The Icebergs pool will take on a whole new look as thousands of miniature icebergs – cubes, to be more accurate – fill its waters. The idea is to offer Uber One members a unique way to cool down and recover after a weekend workout.

Beth Pondo, Uber One’s Director of Operations, provided some lyrical details on the event. “We’ve got ice, ice, baby and we’re deploying it to create the world’s coolest ice bath ever,” Pondo said. “Thousands of miniature icebergs will give loyal Uber One members a chill recovery as we help this Aussie landmark live up to its equally iconic name.”

The temporary ice bath is one of the many exclusive perks available to Uber One members this Sunday, August 11th. Members will have the opportunity to pre-book 15-minute sessions between 9am and 11am through the event booking portal (which you can find here).

If ice baths aren’t your thing and you’d prefer to avoid the cold plunge, there’s still plenty of other perks to enjoy. Everyone who shows up will be treated to some post-recovery merch, as well as some food and drinks – the ultimate recovery tools. But that’s not all. The event will also feature a series of musical performances throughout the morning, including a DJ set by Sydney’s own Touch Sensitive.

Michael Di Francesco, better known by his stage name Touch Sensitive, is the headliner for the Icebergs event. “I’ve played at a lot of recoveries, but this has to be the coolest one yet,” he said. “The Icebergs is such an iconic venue, I’m stoked to be playing at this event.”

Access to the musical segment of the Bondi Icebergs event is straightforward for Uber One members. It’s first in, first served, exclusively for Uber One Members. Additionally, if getting there is an issue, Uber is offering members in Bondi a 40% discount on an Uber Pool trip (up to $20) by entering the code SYDONEPOOL40.

Now this all sounds good, but what if you’re not from Bondi – or Sydney, for that matter? Thankfully, Uber has thought of you, too. In addition to the exciting activities at Bondi Icebergs, Uber Eats is offering Uber One members nationwide a treat by freezing the prices of certain fan favourites at $5 on the app from August 9-11.

All you need to access all these benefits is an Uber One membership, which will set you back $9.99 a month – a small price to pay if events like this are what you’ll get in return. Usually, the benefits are fairly straight forward, with in-app promotions and discounts. Occasionally though, they extend to unexpected icy experiences like this one.
